Posted August 21, 2018 09:05:10Aussie rugby superstar Scott Wight has made his first-ever professional appearance for a South Australian team and is set to make his international debut at the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The 22-year-old joined the Melbourne Rebels as an 18-year old, making his NRL debut for the club in 2017.
The Rebels have not played in the Rugby Championship since the year of their debut in 2016, but Wight is set for a major breakthrough at the Rugby World Cups, where he will be joined by fellow debutants Aaron Woods, Aaron Cruden and Josh McGuire.
Wight says the experience is a major boost to his game, which is set up to be his first international opportunity.
“It’s been a real privilege for me to play in the NRL and it’s a real honour for the team to be able to support me,” Wight said.
“I’m looking forward to coming into the NRL with a bit more confidence and a bit of a mindset of coming out here and working hard.”
The Rebels are currently in eighth place in the competition and are a guaranteed finalist.
